Classworks Theatre is custodian of an extremely substantial collection of clothing from the late 1840’s to the 1960’s.  We now have the exciting and interesting task of documenting every item listing its history, the donors and stories associated; photographing each item, cataloguing etc.

We are applying for Heritage Lottery Funding to enable us to train people in conservation and to properly house this collection to make it regularly accessible to the general public.  Currently we offer a travelling exhibition/demonstration/interactive talk to groups of all ages.  We focus less on fashion and more on the stories of those who wore the clothing and the times they lived in.  After all, theatre is all about people’s stories…. (See If Clothes Could Speak..)

The collection is also inspiring a short film, TRY STANDING IN MY SHOES… an interaction between teenagers of the 1950’s and teenagers in 2017…

And … pupils (15+) from LOCAL SCHOOLS could be part of this project (contact us for more information)
